    TD5 Immobiliser - Strange behaviour

Yesterday I pulled the radio to do some work on the top part of the dash (I fitted a little shelf to the top of the dash) and put everything back together once I had completed the task.

First thing I noticed was that the numerals on the clock had disappeared - the backlight still works though.

I then tried to start the Disco and nothing - starter did not even turn over. I locked and unlocked the car and all was well - she fired up.

Next I noticed that the HVAC was off. It worked just fine once I switched it on though.

Every time I stop the engine and leave it off for a short while I again have to lock/unlock the vehicle and she starts again but the HVAC system is off again and needs to be restarted.

I disconnected the battery for a few minutes and this made no difference - still had the same symptoms.

Also, my Nanocom has stopped working - it's like there is no power - I'll have a look at the plug during the day to see if there is anything going on there.

I pulled the radio to see if I had damaged any wiring to the clock and could not find anything.

Has anyone had any similar symptoms or any suggestions on where to start looking for the problem?

    Cheers,

    Franz

    Gday Franz
Try fitting a new battery. How old is the one in it? Sounds battery related. Or take it to battery world or similar and have them test the battery for you.

You have blown a fuse, I can't remember the number but it is in the fuse box under the dash.

yes there are three fuses which affect the radio and one of them also affects the clock and probably the HVAC, and I bet the blown fuse gives constant power when the ign is off.
Just run a multimeter on 12v across all the fuse contacts to earth or physically check them.

Don't thinks it's the battery that is only 3 months old.

Should not be the battery then...but stranger things have happened. Fuses as has been suggested by PhillipA and dswatts?
Interested to see how you get on.

Fuse it was - F20 - 15A - all transponder coil, header 294, header 295. (third from the top, RHS)

Thanks dswatts & PhillipA. I should have though of it myself when there was a small spark whilst I was re-installing the head unit. Nanocom and clock working, HVAC and startup fine again.

And why were you working on the vehicle without pulling the battery -ve?

    Bad habits......

Besides, there is something else I discovered during this little episode.

Disconnecting the + & -, or both does not kill the power. I disconnected one and then both and still managed to start the vehicle!

One of the things I don't like about the Traxide SC80. I then disconnected the SC80 earth wire and still had power to the ignition. The only way I could kill the power altogether was to pull apart the stupid connectors that were supplied with it (I really dislike those connectors).

This could be a real problem if someone not familiar with this style of DB system works on the car - assumes that the battery is disconnected and accidentally causes a short or other problems.

Hmmmmmm, unless I'm missing something I think I need to replace the SC80 with something else.

The DBS has the aux linked to the main power to the starter. The aux also has it's own earth path.

When isolating power in a DBS both Earth leads need to be removed.

This is not a fault of the Traxide unit.
