    Coolant weep again

    Hi Guys

I have had a problem with coolant leak for a while now.

LR Specialist put a low water sensor in, replaced the bleeder screw with temp sensor. I have changed the radiator hoses etc... and I have had a constant weep from the screw.

The screw has a large flat rubber washer next to the radiator hose. A flat metal washer, spade connector for the wire to alarm, under the head of the screw.

Have I just not tightened this up tight enough??
Should I be using some sort of sealant??
Should I put the original bleeder screw back in and get different alarm????

    Thanks
    Graeme

Mine did that too. The irony of getting a leak from the engine saver was not lost on me. I just put a smear of silicon on the the threads and screwed it back in. that was about 40,000km ago. No more leaks from there.

Don't tighten it up as the screw thread is plastic and can break with the slightest provocation.
    I suggest some silastic.

    Bleed screw

You could use one of these just solder on a connector on
    the top.
It's m6 thread so you have a few options of bolts screws etc.

Brass plug for the top hose better than stock plastic c**p.

BTW I am not talking about the thread on the screw but the thread moulded into the hose. I bought a new brass plug and in the act of removing the plastic plug, the damned thread inside the hose broke away, which leaves you with a big problem.
So be careful and kill a couple of chickens before doing it.

    +1

It will be the thread in the hose rather than the fitting.... one inquisitive touch with a warm motor back when I had the V8 D2, saw me standing in my driveway covered from head to toe...

Not a good look...but I was lucky it wasn't hotter

Yep, pic with original screw has ruined thread! First pic with leak, is the new hose.....

    hence asking questions now.

I like fix right the fist time. BUT seems like I ....ed it first time.

I might go put some silicone on and see it that works. (should have thought of that) or order metal screw if I still have a problem.

    thanks

will let you know how I go.

I cleaned the thread and put a little silicone on. So far all is well. My Disco is not a Daily Driver.

I have driven the disco a couple of times and appears to be coolant leak free!

    thanks

    Exclamation Same heading different problem.

Hi, read the post so far, I had a different leak/weep, through the cords in the top hose.

I noticed there were drops of coolant appearing at the end of the top hose, a couple of weeks later (now) the hose holed at the mid point joint where the pipe goes down to the thermostat.

Was the weep a sign that the hose was about to go?

    Has anyone observed this before?

Also, I have been recommended that all the 'spring' hose clamps be replaced with screw clamps, comments on this anyone?

    Cheers

    Mike

The wicking of the cord indicates an internal failure of the hose, not necessarily about to fail but a good sign that it should be replaced

The spring clamps are good when new as they give even pressure, if you buy a new hose they should come with new clamps

I think the main problem with worm drive hose clamps is the fact that people often over tighten them and damage the hose
