    Would p38/defender diff guards fit my disco

    Hi
    I am looking at some cheap second hand p38 diff slide / guards made by bearmach do you think they would fit my disco? Cheers Matt

    If you are nearby you can do a dry run trial fit of a QT diff guard I bought but never fitted to my P38A

    I may get around to fitting it - one day. I didn't because the studs by which it is attached are too short. That means the diff has to come out and the studs replaced with longer ones (they fit from inside the housing).

    Whatever you do don't buy one that clamps around the front of the diff.
    I bought one.
    The problem is that the nose of the diff is not parallel so the tension is only on one small area and if there is vibration they can fall off.
    Mine fell off once when I was bashing the axle to try and shift the lower ball joint.
    The next and final time was 1/2 way along the GRR. I thought it was just a big rock rattling underneath at the time , but next time I was underneath realised it had fallen off again.

    Any one finds one on The GRR , it's mine.

    The rear is unlikely.

    The front may - the QT front diff guard for the Defender is a good fit on the D2 (without welding which the QT D2 specific one requires), but the diff plug holes are in the wrong locations (I just cut my own new access holes).

    I fitted my QT guards from my series 1 to my D2, top bracket in front needed some shaping, but other than that they fitted perfectly. Later models may be different though, mine is a 2000 model.

    I found the way to fix the problem of the guards that clamp on the front of the diff dome from falling off......weld it on!!!!

    I put mine on and got a bloke who is a bit of a gun welder to stitch the guard onto the diff by welding(mig) it on in four spots around the housing( He stitched it around the bottom 1/2 of the guard as the top didn't seem to be doing much) .

    Because it was 'stitched' on the housing, the housing didn't heat up to much when getting welded, so it was done on the car and I never had to drain or change the oil(at the time). Approximately 100k km since it was done.
    I put a dome type on the front diff and a QT slider type on the rear.

    Never had a problem since and it won't fall off now!!!
