TD5 exhaust manifold torque - increasing it with larger studs?

Well, I used to notice after i had shut the engine down,
i could hear the exhaust manifold creaking as it cooled down, made some funny noises & yes it was the exhaust manifold.
this happened pre & after ECU chip.
A while back I removed the exhaust manifold, ground out the webbing & had it machined flat again due to warpage/leak as we were towing our caravan from Central Vic to Canberra & back.
after removing the webbing it no longer creaks & groans as it cools.
Ive just had all this off again replacing the head, put a straight edge on the manifold and its still true/flat
It had high tensile studs before machining, none were broken, but i put a new set in anyway.
The alloy head threads were fine (old head)

Thanks for your replies folks. I had forgotten I'd seen the landrovertuning.com.au version ages ago too. I've emailed them to ask if the item comes with the nuts, bolts and gasket in the image. The item looks to be a pretty similar gig to the Davis one.

I really want to do this job myself but when that first stud shears off I'm committing myself to seeing the job through to the end. I guess I could still drive it with broken studs to my LR mechanic...90 kms away. People drive with broken studs for years without much more than a whistle, loss of power and soot on the block.

Hmmm. A new manifold isn't really what I wanted to spend my tax return on.

Edit: I just looked at the Davis version again and it is actually different. The one on the right is the Davis version. Having the EGR inlet there isn't a bad thing as it makes for an easy location to stick the EGT probe.

I believe the left manifold is the Davis Performance option while the right is the standard Land Rover manifold provided for a visual comparison purpose.

The description describes a manifold with 5 distinct runners - that is the left manifold in the picture, not the right...

Further, being a 'performance' item, it would be fairly safe to assume that most have already gotten rid of the EGR or will be doing such whilst changing the exhaust manifold.

I would highly suggest that regardless of what manifold you choose, you ensure that it is, or get it, ceramic coated as this will likely help significantly during it's life too.

No, it's a bit too late for me as I have never had a brand new manifold. The replacement manifold that I used was a second hand one supplied by JC. You want to get the ceramic coating done whilst it's brand new unused as the soot will be hard to clean off and will effect the quality of the coating.

If/when I ever replace the manifold again it's at the top of my list. At the moment, since tightening up my studs further I have not had any more dramas with it leaking.

The one in the colour picture has an EGR port.
it is just lying upside down.
