    Rattle in the handbrake

    Dear All

Thought I'd share Daisy's latest 'moment'. She picked up a strange rattle at the weekend. Got her up on 4 axle stands last night, spun all the wheels - nothing - then found it was coming from the handbrake drum! I whipped it off tonight and found that one of the 4 bolts attaching the backing plate to the transfer box had come undone and dropped into the bottom of the drum. Sighs of relief all round, reassemble everything; job done.

One thing, I found it hard to get a grip on the nuts attaching the UJ to the drum. The solution was to detach the rear end of the prop shaft, allowing me to move it out of the way.

There is a special tool that you can get to do this. Not too expensive but great to have. It's just a socket integral with a very narrow shank extension.
