    LED Lighting For Rear Loadspace

Time for me to get some LED lighting in the rear load space area.

What I am looking for is to illuminate the rear of the vehicle inside and out.

To explain myself here. On my D1 I put a strip of LED's just inside the rear door along the roof line facing slightly forward.

By doing this they do not shine in my eyes. They do though throw enough light out the rear to illuminate the bottom on my engle when hanging out the rear on the slide.

However my D2 is a seven seater and there is a large horizontal panel at the top just inside the rear which would prevent me from forward facing light.

So those that have put rear LED lighting here, what did you do?
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

    Dave,

This may or may not help, 'cos I don't know what sort of interior light you may already have (or not have) in the rear of your Disco.
However FWIW, I replaced the crappy festoon globes in my Defender interior lights with the LED unit pictured.
Made an amazing difference to the amount of light!
Just to make sure it worked properly, I also soldered the globe to the flimsy little spring clips at each end. (Make sure you get he polarity right first!)..

So there's a cheap and relatively quick solution that does work. (Time taken including removal of light fitting, soldering and replacement of light fitting... about 15 minutes per light.

For some reason I can post pics from my iphone.
Anyway, I have a dual colour led strip that is stuck between the headrests facing forward. No light really shining outside though. The led light isn't really bright and if I was to do it again I would use the newer brighter leds. Although it is sometimes handy having the orange LEDs in the summer months.

This is what I did using the rear trim above the door opening.

I've also since added 4 additional lights mounted into the rear brake light housing on the rear door.

First the switch panel - Stainless steel plate cut to suit

Now for the lights - eBay eagle eye lights

iPom. That is bloody awesome. Where did you get the switches?

Any chance of a pic with them fitted to the vehicle?

What wattage globes did you use? I just had a look on ebay and I see that they come in different wattage's.

Don't think much of your beer choice though.

No pictures I'm afraid until I fly home next Monday....I can post them up then if you like.

Switches from eBay....I will change them for a more flush fitting type, same actual switch just "flusher"

Power comes from my an ignition switched feed from the start battery (Dual battery to go in next week in the rear bin, so I will switch the feed to that)

I think they are 7W LEDs...plenty bright enough...You could probably get away with a 3W to be honest. If you wait until Tuesday I can show you how bright they are.

    Cheers
