Disco 2 alloy wheel nut Size

    Hi,

I Have the original alloy locknuts on land rover steel rims. I need to replace the nuts with steel ones.

Does any know what size locknuts I need to buy to replace the original alloy ones?

    please and thank you.

they're steel lock nuts (yes, technically and 'alloy' of metals) and not 'alloy' as in aluminium. you should just replace them with standard non-locking nuts and throw away the lock nut adaptor which will break in time anyway.

I have now bought the new nuts to replace the factory originals and i cant get the bloody lock nuts off. Every time i try to apply pressure to turn them, the adaptor just slips off. It doesn't seem to sit on all the way.

does anyone know of a way to get them off??

For future reference most wheel and tyre stores (e.g. Bob Jame T Mart) stock a variety of wheel nuts.

Common issue for the standard lock nuts to get damaged. There's probably a few threads about it if you have a search.

try bracing it across the hub not out over the edge of the tyre

I had the same problem with the locking nut. The adapter just doesn't stay put when you put any force on it. The usual cause is the tyre joints use the air gun to do them up, which they shouldn't on the locking nuts.

One way I got mine off, was to try and get the adapter to sit as tight as possible and then place the wheel nut lever across the hub, not out over the edge of the tyre.

    Hope that helps.

Place pressure onto the locknut coded adapter while turning the brace. The alternative is brute force with a punch or chisel to loosen the locknut or a grinder to provide some flats to get a tool onto them.

    Hi guys, reviving this thread..

My wheelnuts took a hit off-roading the other day and pretty much destroyed the 'dress caps' on the nuts, which the tyre shop found out when they replaced my tyres were a PITA to get off as they kept slipping.

I will need to replace the nuts obviously

    My question now is,
1- what size thread and pitch are the nuts?
2- I'm running standard alloys which are a flat seat wheel nut
Coming from a performance car background, running tapered wheel nuts on a flat seat rim was a big no-no. So does anyone know where I might be able to purchase a set of aftermarket lock nuts, with a flat seat, to suit the D2?
I've never seen such a larger wheel nut/stud on a passenger vehicle before!

    Cheers

I think you can pull the covers off, they are not meant to come off so if you do they will be not going back on.

I have seen some online shops that provide the all sort of wheel/lug nuts with all the different seats, problem is I can't remember their name at the moment.
