I think that's a great idea. Couldn't you adapt a kit like this to fit?
Sustec Front Hood Bonnet GAS Strut Damper KIT Nissan Navara D40 Pathfinder R51 | eBay
Playing with my son's P38 today I was finding how much nicer gas struts holding up the bonnet are, compared to the Disco bonnet support rod.
Looking at my D2 I reckon it would not be hard to fit a set.
Anyone done it?
Dave.
I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

I reckon if one jammed you would end up with a bent bonnet remember that the bonnet is alloy

The bonnet is double skinned though. You would never bend it with a gas strut.
In all the years I have worked on cars with gas strutted bonnets the only thin I have ever seen is they loose gas.
Have had the odd one come down on my head. Probably explains a few things.![]()

The D2 bonnet is much lighter than a steel bonnet. So if you do follow through with this get some lower pressure struts. A local vendor made low pressure struts up for my Falcon for it's carbon fibre bonnet - so it's easy enough and no extra expense involved.
Have a look at http://www.aulro.com/afvb/showthread.php?p=2230894.
While your at it, a gas strut for the rear tall door would be good too - how many times has that closed on you while you've been busy in there!
