oh mine was pressurizing. no oil mixing with water.
When I took the head off obvious that head gasket was a problem.
I here you had injector seals replace. from what you are saying, what I have read, I would suspect injector seals.

Hi David
I have just taken the head off my td5 disco manual.
I am swinging the spanners. I have machined the head and exhaust manifold. Mine is a 10p.
Yes you have been reading. Your mechanic needs to look at the head. I would say decision cannot be made until they look at the head!
I will put in genuine injector seals and washers which are double the price of some available online. Some say the aftermarket seal kits may last or maynot.
At this point I do not see the need to put a new head on my td5. machining $275.
If my head was porous I would be looking at a turner head. I would Prob source in Australia.
Best of luck.

Well I received the oil test back today not good news I'm afraid, it indicates that after 10,000kms the oil has 7% fuel mixed with it. I think I'm right in saying that anything over 5% is a worry. Please find results of test attached.
So what should I do now? If I get another opinion won't they tell me the same thing?
Bugger! Next (low cost) action I would do, would be to replace the injector washers/Orings again with Genuine ones - just in case they were not genuine when last replaced. Leaking injector washers are the much more common cause of fuel dilution than a faulty head.
This is a DIY job : www.discovery2.co.uk / TD5 Engine - Injector Seal Replacement
Then change the oil, run and keep a very close watch on the oil level and see how you go.
Good luck,
Simon

Simon,
I'm positive he uses Genuine parts for everything nearly (not brake pads), as I have chipped him about it and the cost of genuine but KHOR are a father and son team and they just don't cut corners, old Bob is an excellent mechanic and they know there Landy's. I do regard them very highly and have been going there nearly 10 years with 6 different Landrovers.
I will look at the video thanks, I am also going to moniter the oil level rigorously too. I'll get some prices on the copper washers and o rings and bolts as well.
Thanks
David
Looked at the instructions for replacing the O rings and washers etc. I think its a little more than a diy as I'd have to buy special tools ie two viscous fan spanners, injector removal tool and a torque spanner. Looks pretty tricky to me, I am no mechanic.
I did get a quote for the labour only to do the head today, $1450 plus oil, coolant and parts from British Offroad at Forest Glen, apparently it is 1.5 day job, without replacing any of the coolant system.
I have been looking for a new head for my D2a. The prices vary considerably:-
Australia:
1. AMC Head at Hoppers Heads Melbourne with install kit included, delivered to Brisbane (only $50) $3045
2. AMC Head at British Offroad, Forest Glen Qld, $3795 plus install kit no delivery
3. AMC Head at M.R.Automotive, Redcliffe Qld $3995 plus install kit no delivery
UK:
1. AMC Head at Turners Engineering UK $3100 delivered including 2 x install kits (seals front and back etc) and sealant all GST and Charges delivered to
Only price so far for Labour only to install is British Offroad at $1450 plus all fluids and parts so all up it is at $4500 plus fluids, and filters. With a contingency I can see this costing at least $5000, so much money, jeez!
Also should I replace all the coolant hoses at the same time, as so many other members seem to do? I should also do the oil pump bolt at the same time too, lots of parts needed for that too.
Hi David,
Can't comment on your head replacement as Ive not had to do one, but I would add to your list of options:
4. Have a complete good low km used motor installed from a reputable supplier with a warrantee - eg TRS Adelaide, installed by your mechanic. I seem to remember another forum member paid ~$3500 for such an engine.
The reason I say this is you should consider how good the rest of your motor is - if it's been running for a considerable time on diluted oil it may have some wear - others may have a better idea of this based on your used oil analysis.
5. Wreck and sell the car and buy another good complete Disco. There are some bargain Disco 2's around.

Simon,My mechanic told me to sell it. The cars only worth $7000 apparently.
Yes well in my opinion it's probably been leaking diesel into the oil for 160,000kms from day 1.
2nd hand motor probably be the same cost with labor as the head would cost.
They are a lot of car for $7000 aren't they?
I just think I have to buy the head, save some dough and get it put in. It's the devil I know. Maybe I'm wrong, not sure.
Thanks for your time and advice btw.
Regards
David
Mate i have had 2 Discos for many years and have mates and family with them. I have also experienced or have family that have experienced all of those shops that claim rover speciality or that deal in rovers. For this type of problem just keep driving north to you get to British Offroad...and talk to Andrew the workshop foreman.
Cheers
