    Weird vibration

Ok, so I have had this weird vibration for about a year now, but it only shows up once every month or two for a single drive and then it disappears again. Here is what I know about it so far:
It can start right as I turn the car on, or maybe mid drive.
If I turn the car off, I can continue to hear it for about half a second.
If I switch the car off and back on, sometimes it is gone.
Its loud enough for everyone to hear, and can be felt though the feet of the people in the front
Its the same volume/frequency in all gears, park and neutral and doesn't change with revs.
When I get out of the car I cant hear it over the engine so I cant find the source.

I got no idea what is going on!

    Assuming it's a Td5.
Have you replaced the centrifugal oil filter? It will continue spinning briefly after you turn off. If it's really old (as in someone doesn't know it's there), the bearing may be shot in it which may cause the vibration, although I've never heard anyone else talk about this.
The filter is in a cast aluminium housing on the RHS (looking from the front) of the engine not far from the turbo. It's quite cheap and an easy DIY replacement.... just DON'T over-tighten the bolts as they are VERY easily stripped.

Have you got air bag suspension?? It could be the air pump cycling.

    Cheers,

    No air suspension.

I happened again a couple of days ago and this time I noticed when I was beside another car I could hear a buzzing reflecting back at me. I quickly had a listen at my destination and i could barely hear it coming from right at the front of the car. Unfortunately I was working and had to stop and car. And 20 minutes later its fine and hasn't played up since.

Have you checked the electric radiator fan by hot wiring it?

Sometimes old fans get a dry bearing and sometimes can work properly but other times get up a chatter whine or squeak.

Well, I had thought it could be that fan. I assumed it would come on all the time when the aircon was switched on so I wrote that idea off earlier. Maybe it doesn't though. So I will try your suggestion. With any luck the nanocom can switch it on without me having to hot wire it. (I hope that doesn't sounds as lazy as it does to me....)

If it's a similar vibration to what I've had only once or twice in my year of ownership (and only hot days), the vibration came from engine bay. Somewhere near the master cylinder and back of the engine.
    Still have no idea!

    Do you have ACE?

I had a buzzing/vibration at just above idle.

It was one of the black actuators/ solenoids on top of the ACE block on the chassis.

    These are cheap.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

    Will
