    D2 intercooler upgrade

    Hi guys,
As you may or may not have derived from the thread title, I am upgrading the TD5's intercooler soon.
What are people's opinions/experience with various aftermarket options?
I have seen a couple of different ones like the PWR one and the TRS one, which one will give me the best bang for buck?
I will be combining this with a chip (most likely TRS ECU swap, as I have the old style ECU), centre muffler deletion and EGR deletion.
Will my EGT's get a bit too high if I remove the EGR?
Also I am getting the auto strengthened and fitting a lower stall TC and 32" tyres.
Any advice and/or testimonials would be great.
    Cheers, Dave.

I have a D2a intercooler in my 2000 D2. Got it from TRS In south Oz for a few hundred bucks. Much cheaper than an aftermarket option. I have a Bruce Davis chip in mine too. The performance is good enough for me.

Removal of you EGR will not effect your exhaust gas temps. With the $ you saved buying a D2a intercooler, fit an EGT to monitor your temps. A mid pipe will drop you EGTs again. Remember to wind up the boost on the waste gate with the new intercooler and mid pipe or you won't be getting any benefit.

Cheapest mid pipe replacement is from paddock spares http://www.paddockspares.com/pm954-s...disco-td5.html

How do you figure $90 AUD + freight is cheaper than $50 at the local Zorst shop

I don't have a local exhaust shop. So easier for me to order from Uk with a bunch of other stuff. Freight on $600 worth of parts was around $100. Saved over $300 buying locally excluding the pipe. So worth it IMHO.

And at today's exchange rate it is $72.80 aud plus freight, not $90.

I put in an EU3 (AKA D2a) intercooler with the TRS chip.
Works really well & cost effective intercooler compaired to the EU2
I have low stall TC as well.
In the link you can see the difference EU2 vs EU3 intercooler.

Much less effective too. Having a D2a I upgraded to an aftermarket unit. It's significantly larger.

I do agree though, that if you have a D2 and are on a budget, a D2a intercooler is a worthy consideration as an intermediate step.

Yeah the cheapest aftermarket one I found was still gonna be over $850 shipped here from England.
I saw ones going up to $1400 as well.
I had a quick look on Ebay and I found a decent D2a intercooler for $300 so I've bought that instead and will pocket the extra $600 and use it for something else haha maybe a new double swag and some camping gear
Still waiting on the rest of my gear to arrive!
    Thanks for the replies,
    Dave.
