Hi Guys,
I had my D2 Td5 in for a service today and they found oil in the wiring loom and advise replacing the injector harness and the entire wiring loom.
They have quoted me approximately $1000 for this job. Does that sound right? Seems like a lot. I have looked into doing it myself and it doesn't look to difficult just time consuming (which I don't have at the moment, hence why it's at the mechanics for a service).
What are your thoughts on this?
Thanks,
Shaun.

I am having trouble searching .. Not getting any results. Must be doing something wrong. Where do you search exactly?
Cheers,
Shaun.
I'd be inclined to just replace the injector harness, a good how to is here www.discovery2.co.uk / Workshop /Injector Harness
There will still be oil in the engine bay harness, but by either leaving the red plug unplugged and 'hanging low' overnight/when not driving or by cleaning it out regularly you should be able to get gravity to drain the remaining oil.

$1000? Dear God no. It is a 30 minute DIY job to replace the injector harness (I seriously did mine in my lunch hour). You need a 13mm spanner to get the acoustic cover off the engine and an 8mm spanner/socket to get the rocker box cover off. I did Daisy's 4 years ago and it's been ok ever since. A purist would change the rocker box gasket, I didn't and it's been ok.

The price is high due to the bolded part, the injector loom as already said it's piece of cake but the engine main harness is not so easy job and the harness is expensive itself... if you can afford it's good to replace the engine harness cos in time(10-15 years) it develops all kind of bad contacts, chaffed insulation, etc and it can affect the manegement as it has all the sensors connected... when i had the oil ingress i replaced the injector loom then i've got a bonus and i decided to replace the main harness too... i can tell that the engine became smoother, also i soldered bullet connectors on the yellow injector wires near the red plug so there will not be oil ingress to the ECU anymore, i keep inspecting the upper plug from time to time to make sure that the loom is not leaking

Thanks everyone much clearer now.
Yes the Mec wants to replace the injector harness and the main loom/ harness (which is the expensive part).
Wondering if I should just get the injector harness done?
