I had to use a "Original spare, as new" on the rear while towing the van. It lasted about 30 kays and blew a large bubble in the sidewall.
    Throw it away.

As I suspected the spare is a dud. Its such a waste to see a tyre with full tread being thrown away, but at 10 years old, I suspected it might not be too safe. 5 x new tyres then, when the time comes! By the way these BFG's are really good tyres! If they didn't have white writing on the sides (which I hate) then I'd be tempted to go with them again.

You do know you can mount the lettering on the inside

Don't know why people have 2 sets of tyres. At least one set will usually deteriorate before they wear out. For me, using 5 tyres gets me 75,000+ km which is about 5 to 6 years use. Time for a change then anyway.
I have 2 sets of tires because on the road i use a standard 29" highway pattern and off the road i use a 32" mud terrain pattern. I uses them both frequently but i will admit its a PITA changing them, i just can't bring myself to try out the expensive Michelin's up the bush.

Yes you can ask for the writing on the inside.
But GQ patrol and Maverick owners seem to prefer it on the outside

It is mandatory for Land Rover owners and particularly Range Rover owners to have the peasant white writing on the inside .

Next you will tell us you have a tyre cover with Tweety Bird or a picture of your dog on it, or baby on board stickers along with a stick family.

It's all a bit Infra Dig for a Land Rover

Another thing to bear in mind is that a never used "new" spare that has been sitting on the back for 10 years may be very difficult to get off the rim because the compound changes with age. Happened to me and it took a professional tyre place half a day to get the tyre off. They were not happy.
