Fuel consumption down (cleaned map and maf)

I've just had a new fuel pump fitted (genuine) and my consumption seems to be worse by about 30%. I've cleaned the map and maf sensors and can't see any obvious leaks. Does anybody have any pointers/suggestions please?

    Hi,

Have you damaged your MAF by accident whilst cleaning it? Just a thought as they are sensitive. A Hawkeye or Nanocom will tell you if its stuffed, but something is wrong to have a 30% difference.

How did you get to the conclusion that it's such big difference?...did you rely only on then gauge as it seemed to you that it drops too fast or did you fill with fuel and calculate...cos being a new pump, even if it's genuine the level sender could have been missaligned on fitting and it shows you empty while there's much fuel left in the tank

Thanks sierrafery, I was going by the fact that I normally get a lot more out of a quarter of a tank. I'll brim it and run to empty and then recalculate.

    Hey Jake,

Tank sender is part of the pump assembly.
Think you're just seeing the variances between the senders, not actually using more fuel.

... actually the senders are replaceable parts of the pumps, they even can be bought as spares so if the old pump's sender was OK you can swap them and be carefull to not bend it when you refit the pump cos it's quite hard to adjust the sender once missaligned, you have to make measurements with the pump out and watching the gauge and within the tank from the hole to get it accurate

Ran the numbers today on a quarter of a tank at refill and it looks like it is the sender as figures work out as what I'd expect 100/13l so guess it is the sender
