Oil also gets in their via the tapper cover breathing pipe, or whatever its called.
But I agree, it wouldnt have takening much to have all the oil not recirc back into the inlet.
Hi, I am am new but have been reading about the life of TD5 and most seem to think it is premature, but today after removing my EGR and looking inside the inlet manifold I am not surprised at all. Whats the use of having ***micron air filters and letting crap get in. Surely some sort of larger pre filter just for the exhaust that was changed or cleaned every service could have been better than this. If your disposing of black soot in the bin it must be good as the exhaust is only a small percentage cant be worse than having your inlet manifold working only 95%?
Thats my 2bobs worth.

Might have to have a look at the Rocker cover pipe as well now that you mention it.
G'day
The solution is easy. Pull inlet manifold off and clean it, fit an EGR bypass kit and a ProVent.

EGR on and having a look at inlet manifold today, will look up provent. Thanks for the feedback fellas.

Is there any reason I cant extend top cover hose to come out down below. I have just put more gases in the air fitting the EGR whats the difference, do I need some back pressure on the hose?
you can do this if you like as long as blow by isn't excessive and as long as you keep pcv (valve) in place , mainly to stop water ingress, but by running through a provent or similar home made job you are at least keeping that side legal. make sure if you do decide to vent to atmosphere you block hole on turbo intake.
Also td5's are not alone with this issue eg all egr fitted diesels , you should have seen the @$#* that came out of a 3.2 triton i did last week. upper intake was approx 40% blocked , have'nt seen a td5 that bad and iv'e seen a few of them
