    Buying a D2 V8

    Hello,

A mate of mine is looking at buying a low mileage D2 V8 with a LP GAS1 system fitted to it. I know very little about petrol LRs other than they have a tendency to slip liners if over heated or just because they do.

Is there anything that you think he should be looking out for? The vehicle is a 2004 model with a Classic package in it.

    Thanks

Primarily the coolant. It must be clean and full to the right level. Fang it around the block and see if it loses any. All plastic cooling system components will be at risk of failure about now so a full set of hoses, minor pipes and new radiator should be budgeted for. Ask to see evidence that the LPG tank/s are in date by a good margin.

First thing to do, if it hasn't been done in the last 100k klm is a fuel injector service...ask me how i know...mine never done and at 250,000 k leaking petrol injector washed oil off bore. Other than that these are great engines on injected LPG...these and Barra ford 6's i hear. I love mine and will be doing a ring set and a hone and back together hopefully. I would do an injected lpg 4.0 any day over a variety of other LR offerings in spite of my dribbling injector issue...the answer is have the petrol injectors serviced.

    Cheers

The friend looking at this car is here from O/S for a few years on a contract and wants to remove the restrictions to access that a 4x4 can. However apart from getting the necessary tyres would prefer not to have to do major repairs, is prepared to pay a slight premium for trouble free motoring.

    Thanks for the suggestions.
