bump 'thump' from underneath and lubing...

I'd had this thump when going over bumps for while and had looked at suspension mounts and followed a few tips from other posters with noises.

while I had grumble up the stands for my pre embarkation checks last week.....I put a spanner over every nut and bolt I can see......I found the rear damper (shocker) mounts able to be tightened about 1/2 turn and dutifully did them all.

while I was under I went to grease uni joints etc , but my good grease gun wouldnt pump.

tried everything to bleed it , but no.

pulled it down and found the grease had hardened.....the emulsifier I guess that's what it's called had bled out and left a very heavy paste that the gun wouldn't pump.

cleaned out the plastic tube and refilled it with some very good quality grease from a can and finished the job.

the gun had only been sitting since August last year.

any way, the road test following everything was very pleasant and bump thump has disappeared.

so if you have any thumping over bumps check your damper mounts.

    Den.

The 2 times this has happened to me it was due to the upper shock absorber bushes being perished.

Good thinking, I've had a persistent bump in the back end when the suspension twists, haven't gotten around to getting under it with tools but I will be sure to check shocks

Have a similar thing BBD, but only in the rear.
Am lead to believe it may be something about a body mounting, I'll see if I can dig up the tech bulletin.

I had a similar problem that turned out to be the main rubbers that hold the ACE swaybars.
they too cop a hiding just in general day to day use.

Agree. When I recently changed my axle to trailing arm bushes, I found the bottom shock mounts loose or not as tight as they should be.

The clunk when going over the gutter on an angle in my driveway seems to be gone.
