My tick turned into a stripped rock shaft bolt.... which turned into a $4500 Engine refresh. Runs beaut now.
Mine started the dreaded ticking noise recently. The difference was that it was only noticeable when accelerating and would go away when off the pedal and cruising. I suspected an exhaust leak after looking at various threads on here previously and was (in a perverse way) pleasantly surprised to find many of the header bolts loose...so in the end an easy fix!

Well the ticking got the better of me and I pulled the engine. (had a bit of a rear seal leak too)
So I've pulled down the engine in the hope of seeing a dropped liner. Nope all are flush with the block and I can't see anything out of place at the bottom of the liner either. Every thing is new inside the engine and all looks in excellent shape.
So where to now. The block is bare and on an engine stand so I'm pinning the liners!I'll put it all back together with a new rear seal and see how it goes. If the ticking continues it will be down to the scrap yard for the engine and new long motor will be on the cards.
Did I mention you should check the tension on the rocker shaft bolts?
