    fuel leak td5

No not from the usual place....... the fuel pressure reg is fine.

We treated the Disco to a full tank for the first time today. Full as in brimmed.
only to watch as it spilled down both sides of the tank onto the floor
We got home, about 60ks, and it was still wet on both sides.

    First, sorry to any bikers.

Second, I'm hoping this is just a split vent pipe or something easy?
mine is a 04 d2a so is there an access panel in the boot floor?

    Cheers.

Sounds like fuel pump has come out . yep , access panel in the middle of cargo area . I have had prior experience with this , at the servo ,fuel everywhere, the owner had done the fuel pump previously and said he struggled to fit the new one , had a look and he hadn't fitted the seal properly it was sitting complete on top of the tank thread
Have a read on here re carpet removal though I'd say it may have already been cut, fix quick please ,I ride a motorbike as well , no I'm not in NZ but you know what I mean, if this proves to be your leak , you may want to change fuel filter
    Cheers

Thanks for the quick reply, I'll take a look tomorrow.

I have had a diesel spill off a bike too no rain forecast for a couple of days so I hope it will be OK.

    Why can't anything be easy?

Pulled up the carpet and removed the inspection cover to find the pump floating as expected!

I tried to fit it back but it seems that whoever replaced the pump last ignored the torque settings and over tightened it

I was very restrained and did not throw any toys

The thread on the plastic tank looks and feels OK so I think the thin BMW branded metal ring is spread.

Can someone with RAVE find the part number please?

I could remove and attempt to re bend it but I'm not too confident.

Either way I'll have to disconnect all pipes and electrics. I think the fuel bleed is easy but a link to a how to would be great!

    Cheers Matt

"TheTree" on here has one listed on eBay (I assume late P38 would be the same as the D2):
Range Rover P38 Fuel Pump Locking Ring ESR3808 | eBay?

Send him a message & he might look after you .

muddymatt , not sure , but the last pic seems to show the seal lifted,
try lifting the pump out a bit , the seal should fit so that one lip goes under the rim and one lip over the top, if the seal is just sitting on the rim then its wrong and you won't be able to fit the ring on ,which would give you the leak

    Huge thanks to you...
I got home a bit earlier today and with the benefit of daylight I could see the seal was fitted wrong.
I disconnected the pipes and wires then removed the pump unit.
after a good clean I tried just the ring and it tightened up just fine.
I refitted and after a couple of goes I found if I fitted the seal and then slid the pump thru it that last inch the pump slid further into the tank and allowed the ring to thread on properly.
test drive later and the tank is dry.
    I'm very happy.

big thanks also to Steve. thetree on here who had a ring and was on stand by to post it to nz.
