    a new Discovery Td5

I am looking at getting a Discovery 2, Diesel Manual seven seater. There aren't that many out there. I have seen one down in Geelong in a car yard with 307k kms. If the car does have a good service history, how long will a well maintained engine last?

    Cheers Bo

There is not much choice in vic atm, i have been keeping an eye out for a D2 TD5 Manual.

    This was a bargin

This really appeals to me but i think the price is a little high

D2a which is also not too bad, paint looks good maybe resprayed

    Good luck with the search.
As the rest of the forum says whatever you find make sure its got a proper service history and has been maintained

Welcome to the forum. You will find everything you want to know or solve on the D2 here so do plenty of research.

The Td5 should be good for well over 500,000kms but there are so many variables at play and you can have problems with a lot less kms. The bigger issue is not kms but just age - plastic bits like to break and fail after 10 years. So providing you have empathy for cars and prepared to give plenty of TLC, you will be rewarded.

Also keep an eye on the for sale ads here on AULRO, you can often find a good D2 owned by another passionate LR owner.

[QUOTE=huggies;2361369]There is not much choice in vic atm, i have been keeping an eye out for a D2 TD5 Manual.

    and this

    1999 Land Rover Discovery Td5

out of my budget, I have 8k to spare

I may have to get a 5 seater and convert it. I don't mind working on a car, I plan on doing all the servicing my self. Still thinking of how to have the crankcase ventilated without sucking that oily crap through the turbo etc. I want the next time I clean the intercooler to be the last time.

EGR removal kit about $60 from the UK, or $120 locally

I plan on doing the servicing myself, and fixing things as needed. It's a fun thing to do and very rewarding when finished.

Top of the list is EGR removal and a catch can for the PCV.
Then a CDL, then a dual battery etc. etc.

    Then across the top end!

I can tell you from recent experience doing the very same - if you get all of the parts, it is quite straightforward. The only small catch is the seat belt mounts need to be tapped. Everything else is remove and replace.

    Hi Bohica,
Well, in this case, have a closer look at what comes up in the link that you gave in an earlier post: 1999 Land Rover Discovery Td5

Under "Seller's Comments", you'll see that it is mentioned.
    Cheers,
    AndrewMilne
