    D2 auto gearbox warning lights

The 'M' and 'S' lights on my 2000 Td5 auto Disco II started flashing. Stopped, consulted the handbook, and as suggested, switched off and restarted the car. Still flashing. Hmmm - visit to the mechanic? This morning, tried again to see - no flashing lights.

So... was it just an electrical gremlin (do Lucas do the dash on the D2), and I'm fine to go, or should I take it to the mechanic?

Can be earth fault but I've had it happen when you quickly start and engage trans and drive in a very quick sequence. I usually turn on the key wait a couple of seconds then start.

    Hi
Have you been through some water lately ??
This can also be the result of moisture/water in the control unit on the side of the gearbox. I had this after pressure washing the underneath of my vehicle. I cleaned around the control unit and gave it a big dose of WD40; within 24hrs the problem was gone.

Check the state of the linkage and electrical connector on the LHS of the box, the A/C drain is above it.

The fault will reset on turning the ignition off then waiting again for about 10-15 minutes (think its so the Auto ECM can power down) if it thinks it can clear it. If it keeps coming back though it needs seeing to.

Hi, I had the same problem with my 2002 D2 a couple of months back. Both the manual and sport mode warning lamps were flashing. Following a little reading of the manual and a check with the Nanocom I figured out it was an electrical problem. As I was about to remove the selector panel on the center console I bumped it and the lights stopped flashing. Miracle Cure? I suspect it was the multiplug under the panel that was loose. (see the manual procedure 44.15.10) Haven't seen the lights flash since then.

    Regards

    Strange!!!

This is my first post good to see every one else has the same things happening with there Discoverys, On my wifes TD5 auto the M & S lights come on and auto goes into limp mode after the interior lights time out due to door being open for over 7 minutes, we are over 1.5 hours from a landrover repairer so we put up with it for a week or so worked out that all we had to do was lock it and unlock it and it was right. This may sound silly to some of you but we live on a farm and we never lock it now when it happens its a quick fix

had the same problem. It is the elect on the gear box sender[switcer or whatever you like to call it] check where the air con drains, it is right over this switcher unit. I rerouted the drain and then replaced switcher unit no more problems !!!!! best of luck it is a fiddly job
