A quick update on the problem of my 2000 D2 BCU going to sleep overnight. I finally got around to replacing the 433MHz rf receiver two days ago as step 1 in an elimination process (step 2 being BCU and connections). The good news is that the fob has successfully unlocked the car both mornings since. It's early days but hopefully the problem is fixed. Will let you know if it re-emerges.
The old receiver (see photo in first post) looked brand new. It had not been wet (no sunroof to leak water onto it) and was dust free. I expected that it would be working fine but replaced it to help isolate the problem. But maybe the rf receiver was defective after all - eg sending interference to the BCU and causing it go to sleep. Part numbers are as follows:
Old part: YWY 100440
New part: YWY 000080A
I know this has been covered before but replacing the rf receiver is not too difficult provided you know how to get access to it above the headlining without breaking anything. Steps I took (no rear air conditioning or sunroof in my case) are:
Thanks to everyone for your help.
- remove plastic strip at top of rear cargo door opening. It pulls out towards the front (horizontal direction) and is held in place by a few spring clips that push into holes in the metal bodywork. (I also removed the little metal thing bolted to the centre of the door opening - not sure what this is for)
- remove translucent plastic from rear interior light (ie the bit the light shines thru) and then remove two small (8mm?) nuts securing the light to the (metal) roof above. Push light up into the hole in the headlining so headlining can drop down.
- PLEASE NOTE: no need to remove the centre interior light. It is secured to the headlining itself (and not the metal roof above as is the rear light) so does not interfere with the headlining dropping down
- remove rear door grab handles
- remove left and right rear side trims
- DID NOT remove B pillar trims (pillar between front and rear doors) because I had read that it can be a bit tricky and I had just enough room without doing so
- placed a chair in the back of the vehicle to stop the headlining falling too far and possibly breaking
- There was just enough room to reach and unbolt the rf receiver (10mm spanner) and disconnect it from the wiring (simply pulls out). The new receiver was exactly the same shape and fitted straight in

Alan
