While bad engine mounts also will cause this issue, they are expensive. I'd suggest pulling the engine mount out and checking before ordering new ones.

As far a I remember both the transmission and transfer case mounts are cheaper than 1 engine mount. DO NOT BUY CHEAP ENGINE MOUNTS THEY ONLY LAST 5000kms. Well mine did anyway.

You said earlier you had a quick look at the auto and TC mounts, I made this mistake also. I think it would be a good idea to undo the 15mm nut on each and jack the auto and TC up to take the weight off the mounts. This way you can move the mounts by hand and check them properly. It is not difficult and will not take long.

You will be kicking yourself it you replace the expensive engine mounts and it turns out to be something else that was cheaper to fix.

Check the engine mount from underneath by lightly putting a screwdriver into the hole. If it doesn't go far in the mounts are stuffed. Should go in about 10 mm if the hydraulics are still intact.

What a transformation, replaced the engine mounts last nite and most of the vibration has gone. You can see how much the mounts has compressed. I reckon the remaining is probably normal for a 210K old vehicle and I can live with it. Thanks you all.

For what its worth when I replaced the engine mounts on my last D2a TD5 it was like a new car, the difference was amazing. The mechanic said the engine mounts were down to there stops, what ever that means. He recommended and I replaced with, Genuine LR parts.

My new D2a needs new mounts now too, at 160kms, this cars engine mounts are down to there stops too. I'm not going to hesitate to get it done, I'm not sure why/what it does and others could elaborate on that.
