If it's a v8 then it may need some new plugs, leads , and/or coils.
If a TD5 , may have oil in the loom.
Please advise more details.

Hi Guy`s
Can anyone explain my Auto Gearbox symptoms with my 2004 Discovery 2?
This has recently just started, while stopped at say a road junction with the car in drive, the engine seem`s to hunt. But if I put it into neutral the engine run`s smooth. I have checked all the engine mounts and all seam ok, there are no faults logged. Is this the first sign of possible gearbox failure?
Thanks

Hi Philip,
Thanks for your reply.
Forgot to say it`s a td5.
I put a new injector harness on about 6 months ago and checked it to be still dry at the ECU.
Thanks CharlieChap
If you have nanocom, check cylinder balances in gear , go from there
How does it behave in normal driving? Changing? Rough? slow? Unless there are some other gearbox symptoms it is unlikely to be gearbox, could be wrong. Could be a fueling related prob, showing up when the box is loading it. Check filters, air ,fuel, recheck the loom, check the fpr.
Hi Schuy 1
Thanks for your post.
The auto sounds slightly rough between 1st & 2nd gear when cold but runs pretty normal when hot.
Checked everything you suggested, all ok, but not sure what you mean by fpr?
Thanks CharlieChap
FPR = fuel pressure regulator
When you say no faults logged does that mean you have diagnostic equipment , if so check cylinder balances as this sounds like engine related, is it definitely when stopped or when coming to a stop? Td5's can hunt when on slight over run , no accelerator as the ecu cuts fuelling .
Air con compressor cycling in/out?
Hunting is when engine revs fluctuate of there own accord, so when idling in drive are the revs stable?.
Vibration depending on how bad could be anything from worn rubbers on the plastic engine cover ( if still there) ,engine mounts exhaust touching metal , to name a few . get someone to sit in the vehicle running in drive with their foot on the brake while you isolate the vibration
