I assume the bcu is a computer? Why don't I simply reboot it?
Lights are controlled by the bcu, so corrosion shouldn't be an issue. That is, the switches only provide a signal to the computer only; they don't control the lights directly. Faulty bcu?

This guy in Europe is having a similar problem to me: Interior Lights / Door Sensor / BCU Issue? - Land Rover Forums : Land Rover and Range Rover Forum
These people offer a bcu exchange service: Discovery BCU
I'm sorry but that info with the switches is wrong unless it' about door switches for courtesy lights, the manual switches are giving direct earth to the bulb and the live is permannent there, the BCU is involved only in courtesy light management the manual switching is a simple circuit so a short to earth due warter ingress there can be an issue, the BCU can be blamed only igf the lights are not going out after lock command
Discovery Td5 (2000), manual, tuned
Yes, applies to courtesy lights only. OP reference was about lights going out after a period of time. So switches on door will cause a short timeout on lights after door closed; if door left open for too long lights will time out; using switches on light fittings to turn on light will not cause time out.
It appears that LR no longer sell D2 BCU's YWC000310, that can't be right can it?
I may have one at home i will check and get back to you
