Hi all,
Anyone have some good ideas for UHF mounting in a D2.
Looking for options for either a discreet look or something that looks factory. Its my next mod but don't want an ugly uhf in the usual mounting points.
Thanks,
I mounted mine under the steering wheel behind the panel.

If you get a small Uniden or GME you can just sit it in the overhead shelf next to the rear view mirror. It fits there perfectly, and I have just stuck mine there with double sided tape. I have hooked the mic onto a hook drilled in at the back of the plastic extension of the shelf in the middle.
There is even a power and earth lead up there for the sunroof which is Acc on even if you don't have a sunroof.
I then ran a short antenna lead out into the rear corner of my drivers door and have a folding Gutter mount antenna mount. This avoids all the routing through the engine compartment and possible interference. You just drill a hole in the very corner, and make sure you have a dip in the wire outside and seal it with silastic.
Oh I had to cut away the plastic moulding under the antenna mount to get a secure fit.

Thanks all for the info & thanks onebob for the link. Didn't see that thread when looking earlier.
Time to get to work.
Yep, behind the fuse accesse is great, I have a tx3400 remote head, the body under the panel and the head under the ashtray. Just be aware that if you are using a nanacom in instrument mode and the uhf in scan mode it will cause the uhf to lock on ch 40 sometimes. There must b slight interference there somewhere. Not been able to track it yet.
Cheers Scott
I had a GME remote head unit. I mounted the head unit under the cup tray as per pic below, and the main box is under the steering column, stuck to the back of the fold out panel.

I brought an icom IC-400. I couldn't find any nice spots. As under steering colum already has a brake controller.
So mines mounted behind the centre console. Just need to mount it low enough for the lid to open fully.
I'm setup the same as CaptainJack with a TX3400. Mic clip on the drivers side is no probs. if I did it today I'd get a unit with everything on the mic which would be even neater again.
Cheers

Ditto Cannon and onebob. Mounted my remote head UHF box inside the drop down panel under the steering wheel. Following thread describes the install with pics.
