    D2 trailer plug behind R/H taillight.

    Afternoon all,

    After going to hire a trailer last weekend, I have recently discovered that none of my towing electrics work at all on my '01 TD5. I got home, (without taking the trailer) and checked the plug with the multimeter.
    Only manages to pull about 8-9V on the taillight pin, the stoplight pin and the reverse pin, 0V on the indicators pins, and there is absolutely no path to ground on the earth pin.
    I traced the wiring back up to behind the R/H taillight where I found a block connector, still with the rubber boot on it, with all the trailer wiring down to the plug installed with a super-dodgy cut-and-shut job on the back of the connector.
    My question is: Can you get a harness which plugs into that connector and goes to a normal Aussie 7-pin trailer plug? All I can find on Google is harnesses for North American trailer plugs etc. I would much rather have it done properly so I know it's going to work reliably rather than the bodge-job done by the previous owner.
    I would have thought, seeing as it's got a genuine Land Rover towbar it would have some sort of genuine wiring harness as well but obviously not...

    Mine has a plug and wiring loom so yes it must be OR was available.

    I have a Hayman Reese tow bar and the loom looks Genuine Land Rover... Probably the Loom plug to a wire without an end so you can fit the plug of choice.

    The Australian part number for that harness with a 7 pin flat connector is RAA500. It came as part of the standard Disco 2 (Australian) towbar kit. It also plugs straight into later model Defender harnesses - so in much demand. I usually manage to sell them quite quickly off D2s that I dismantle.

    Mine is also an RAA number (Can't remember the number part, only saw it when I was doing my electric brakes), but with the 7 pin small round socket. It's possible that the RAA part is only the harness without the actual trailer socket.

    RAA part numbers are Australian spec parts.

    Why not buy a short length of trailer wire and solder it into the appropriate wires behind the tail lights . Wires could be covered in self amalgamating rubber. Fix into your trailer socket and the job is done for about $15.00

    Hi all,

    Thanks for the responses, I think I;m going to have to do a little more digging around and chasing the wiring about, because I seem to be only the same voltages now as what I was getting before. I borrowed a trailer harness off a mate and tested it. I think it might be a problem further down the line... I'll keep you's posted.
