No idea about the lukewarm heater but my opinion is that the SLS airbags should be replaced. You can chase all manner of things but the most common cause of saggy-butt on the D2 is a hole/s in the airbags - even if you can't easily detect them. So don't waste your time and swap them (both) out - it's actually a really simple and quick job - google around for a tutorial. If you wait ages, your compressor will end up dying sooner due to having to keep inflating a holed bag.

It's also worth swapping out the air filter for your air compressor - it's behind the left hand brake/indicator lights and the connector is behind the rear bumper - keep the compressor breathing clean air and it should last longer.

I used these guys for my last set of bags. They were Dunlop brand at the time but Contitech are LR OEM too and will, IMO, be excellent. Don't buy locally and pay $350 ea.

If you replace them and the problems continue, at least you've discounted one issue (the cheapest too) and can then confidently move onto other possibilities - all of which will be much more $$ to sort out: compressor/valve block/sensors are only other things to look at.

When you squirt the airbag with soupy water[you have havn't you] make sure it is in extended mode,this exposes the fold this is were the bag usually leaks from.

Remember, if you attempt to swap the bags yourself (easy) to support the chassis AND axle,,

make sure chassis is WELL off the bumpstops when reinflating.

While you have the wheel and bag off I'd go the extra and add push-in fittings and joiners.

This exposes the fold but may not show that it leaks. The leak in this area is from the various layers failing and letting air out during movement or over a long time - it's a lot of small leaks. Early on extending height may allow the leaks to stop. Soapy water may not show this easily. As others have stated, if it is going down, replace the bags, especially if they have more than a couple of years on them.

My money is on the airsprings too. What year model D2 ? Mine is an 02/2004 purchased 06/2009 and about 6 months later it got saggy butt!

I looked for every other reason it was leaking but it was the RH airspring as everyone said it would be. The soapy spray on water won't always show up a leak, and extending the rear to offroad height quite often causes the leak to stop.

The roll in the rubber in the base of the airspring is where they fail (the constant rolling motion progressively causes the rubber to delaminate and perish ... and as you drive the rear suspension is travelling up/down, causing the roll in the airspring to expose/close the air leak which is why it appears intermittant.

So I changed them both out (used Dunlops, took out Conti's) at around 5.5yrs / 125,000km. I just purchased 2x new Dunlops to carry as spares as most travel in the D2 these days is towing a camper, and the current airsprings are about 5yrs old with approx' 60,000km done. They look good, the spares are as insurance!

Hi All...thank you all for the advice on our saggy butt syndrome we have ordered new butt lifters from o/s as local is way to expensive ....like the idea of carrying spare air bags thumbs up for that idea.........once again thank you all Cheers Dennis & Kat

I have the exact same problem intermittent on right side only and will stay at normal height for weeks even when not in use, air bags are original and I have a new pair on order, however I will be lookin for another cause as I am fairly sure the original bags are still holding air. Still looking for the answer!

The bags should be treated as any other service item,,
every ten years whether you need them or not.
