I am not looking forward to this result ! Is the Disco 2 famous for this ? I am new the the Disco 2, toys , I wanted the td5 ,because it has taken Land rover many years to finally sort out all the problems with the discovery, so the last of the series 2 should be a good reliable toy . thanks mike

If both prop shafts are turning you have drive out of the transfer box. Locking the centre diff should give you drive unless there is a problem with the front and the back. The problem appears to be down stream from the tranny i.e. diff, half shaft, cv or drive flange.

I don't know much about the centre diff lock operation on the D2 i.e. whether it's never on, or on or off vs proportional type locking like on later transfer boxes.

The center diff lock is just sliding ring that locks the input and output shafts in the center diff. Traction control is independant of the diff lock. It is a system that uses the brakes to lock/slow a wheel that has no traction thereby transfering drive to a non spinning wheel across the open center diff. In a non cdl d2 it will also transfer drive through the open center diff thereby causing more wear in it than a cdl d2 via shock loading the shims more.

Try to identify if the problem is after the transfer box or before.
