Sorry for the double post...
another question is.. would it be easier/ cheaper to just replace the engine? rather then trying to tepair
so, this weekend i was towing a kingwoods uphill on the freeway, all ways going fine, till around half way up the hill i started shooting sparks and smoke out the exhaust.. so im assuming i blew the turbo..
however, it then almost instantly overheated.. and now if you start the car then all the water in it gushes out past the bottle cap..
so im also assuming the cap is now dead too...
but... for the water to be under so much pressure, have i cracked a cylinder head?
and would anyone know how much it would cost to repair? (parts value, ill do the work myself)
or anything else it could be?
thanks in advance!!

Well there isnt a 2.8 in a D2 for a start so i assume you mean the TD5 ?
I would say you have done at the least a head gasket and at worst the head is cracked, sparks out of a diesel are never good so something is definitely up there as well.
Repair cost is like a piece of string, my guesstimate would be 2k-4k or anything in between.

Sad to hear. Hopefully its not the head and only the gasket. Could be some radiator damage as well. A good time to get a better turbo as well it may seem.
Let us know what you find out as im sure there will be others who will be in a similar situation at some stage.
Just wondering if anyone could answer, would the damage from a head/headgasket over pressurizing the cooling system cause the turbo to pop if there wasnt enough water to cool it properly?
or could this be 2 separate problems occurring at once?
