I have always had project car(s) and have derived much enjoyment from tinkering with them. I may initially panic when they cease to function but look back upon those moments fondly.
During my time of vehicle ownership I have usually had a very reliable car. A Gemini and two Commodores. They were the cars I used to go to work. They were the support vehicles for my life. They have been and are maintained by experts (people other than me).

If you need a reliable car, buy a Camry, but keep the Landrover and continue to enjoy it and tinker with it.
