TD5 replacement - 10P to 16P?
Hey guys, so I'm having slight suspicion about my td5. I think the head is going, it's high k's anyway at 335k.
If I source a d2a td5, is it worth trying to graft the updated stuff into my d2?
I know for example there is some possible extra sensors? Then could I used the later eu3 4d fuel maps (already have NNN ecu)?
Or is it not worth it and I should just swap over the long motor without accessories?

Is just changing the head an option?
Cheers

I guess.
Arent failures often a cracked head which will put me in $3k+ Territory?
not to mention I think I might be having blow by issues...
Is that your preference due to knowing where the engine is then at?

Apart from different EGR piping which most delete, the motor will go straight in without any need for you to do anything if you dont want to.
The EU3 motor has different (higher pressure) injectors, which look after themselves regardless of ECU. A NNN ECU will be great.
D2a have a larger intercooler than the EU2 D2 which isnt a deal breaker.
The only thing i would consider is the AAPT sensor in the Air Box which is 4 wire on the D2a and 3 on the D2.
"Offtrack" a previous member on here has detailed the mod and benefits, it isnt necesary but will give you the best from the EU3 motor and NNN ECU.
335 isnt huge kms and a head gasket maybe all you need. You wont know till you pull it.

Due to the high pressure injectors and the differences in fuel gallery in the EU3 head the pistons are also slightly different in the EU3 motor. So if you are thinking of putting an EU3 head onto an earlier motor it isn't really that simple. I investigated this when I had to rebuild my engine as I was struggling to find a 16P second hand for a price I was willing to pay.
I guess in your instance I was considering going backwards on the bottom end and you are considering going forward on the top end. If that makes sense. You do have the option of changing the pistons to EU3 type too - Turner only sell the later type. This way the piston and head would be matched still. For you this is going forward in motor advancement.
But don't forget mate, you have fitted an oil catch can and you are leaking oil out the front of the head at the cam plug and if I recall correctly on the top of the rocker cover where the breather hose bolts on.
There is a chance you have blow by as well so your pistons rings could be worn. You are opening Pandora's box taking the head off.
I rebuilt mine because I had the time, tools, resources and ability. If you don't have all that I think you are heading down the right path of replacing the motor and the EU2 motors are easier to find and cheaper.

Thanks for the responses guys.
That last post I think sums it up. I definitely don't have the time or resources, maybe at a stretch I have ability haha
I guess in short, I should ensure I get a long motor with accessories/injectors/fuel rail etc to allow for the differences?
I'd be pulling off the egr stuff so hopefully should all fit together otherwise.
Just trying to work out what map I would run? I think eu3 has extra sensors, and accelerator wire so I probably would have to leave them unplugged and just run current eu2 maps then?
