Removal & Fitting Bullbar (and rant)

Hey all, new Disco 2 owner here. (Or more specifically: 2001 Land Rover Discovery Series 2, TD5, with CDL mechanism but no shifter ) Will post pics when I get the chance, but after doing some self taught modifications to my car, I cannot figure out how to remove the front bullbar.

There are four knarly looking bolts towards the front, if laying down looking up, but it looks as though if I undo them, it will leave a rather large section secured to the car. Also someone mentioned crush cans when I was researching, and this is the first car I've owned with airbags, so I do not know how rough or what to detach up there. It's a classic ARB, looks about 5 years old. Looking to replace because it's had an impact, won't hold a winch, and rusted as well as cracked some plastic behind it.

I'm finding this car an absolute dream, and really easy to just "mod". Already put a 300w Pure Sine Inverter, with Wifi, Apple TV, DVD Headunit and routed cables about the place (even into the centre console for non wifi audio playback, cause I'm much more an I.T. guy, than a car guy, however this car has ignited my inner mechanic) all mounted behind the plastic rear storage, swapped out the abysmal interior lights with some decent ones, pulled off the roof map storage for rear view mirror/monitor for rear camera, and pulled the centre console out in preparation for CDL Shifter (though no one will sell me one without trying to bundle a transfer case..) and replaced rivets with threads and nonslip bolts. Even pulled out one of the rear seats and running 3 seater.

But rant aside: bullbar removal. Search didn't help. Came up with 1000 results, and scanning through them I realised it was showing me anyone that mentioned "removing bullbar" but not "how to".

Anyone able to show me what I'm looking for? Or just comment generally on how awesome these cars are?

I think you can get PDF instructions for fitment from the ARB site so if you find that and go backwards should be all good.

You have 2 bolts that go into the bar nearest the front, there is a pinning bolt as well, which may make 3 per side. Undo those and the bar comes off leaving the extensions for air bag compatability.
Remove the 2 or 3 bolts per side and they come off.
Refit wise you will have instructions, but the big tip is don't assume the new bar is straight. Get it pretty good and then align one side to get the panel gap, drill and pin it, thrn do the other side.
I faffed for ages with mine thinking you must be able to get both side perfect before drilling.
Of course, fitting a replacement may mean you cant pin it to a new spot because of existing holes, so you may need to drill a new pilot hole before fit.

As Wenier said try a search on the ARB site.
I just had a look at mine - should only be 6 bolts holding it on.
The crush cans are bolted to both the bull bar and the frame. You want to undo the bolts at the frame - two on the side and one from underneath. The bolts also hold the wombat bar / steering guard on.
The crush cans look like square tube with a ripple in them.
They are heavy so have either a floor jack or a friend to help. From memory they are fairly snug fitting so could take some wiggling to get off.

Thanks for the info guys. Having another look at it, and the ARB guide, it looks like a custom job. Also there are a heap of spot welds on all the bolts up the front there, so I doubt anything is going to be coming off easily.. Think I'll crack out the angle grinder and start at the front. It's not like the bar can be salvaged anyway with the amount of rust and impact damage.

Have a look for a screw on each side holing the inner plastic guard to the outer wings.
As others said 3 bolts each side, take the crush can with the bar.
I seem to remember I had to remove the grill to get the vertical bolts out but it was while back.
I had to gently winch it also as it was a tight fit.
    Cheers, Kyle
