5000km's since last oil change about to do 8000kms

    Hi everyone,

Just putting out to the collective wisdom. It's a TD5.

I'm 5000km's since the last full service, Oil, both oil filters, fuel filter and air filter.

I'm about to head off for a 7-8000km round trip (pretty much done most major things mechanical in the last 2 years, auto, front prop, head, cooling system, all hoses, fuel pump), so apart from a pre trip inspection, should I do all filters again when I do the oil, some, none?

I'm not too interested in doing an oil change at the 10,000km mark, but it seems a little wasteful to do all filters if I don't have to given the distance travelled so far.

    Peter.

just take a spare fuel filter incase you get a dose of water and a spare air filter if you get caught in a dust storm.

Look at it this way a 10,000 km trip is better for / easier on your engine than 5000km of city driving.

I'm definitely changing the oil, just not sure about whether or not to do the filters at the same time.

waste of time changing the oil unless you change the main oil filter, rotaty filter every 2nd change is ok

If your doing big runs on bitumen you could stretch it
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

I wouldn't bother to be honest.
The Td5 with good oil will happily see 15-20k between changes. Rick130 on here, who knows a fair bit about oils and filtration will confirm this.
DiscoDB has 460k on his Td5 and has done 20k changes from day dot.
Honestly I wouldn't bother. Take spare filters sure, particularly air and fuel, but I wouldn't worry about the oil, if you're dead set going to do it just do main filter and oil. Even at 20k the rotary filter has 2/3rds of SFA collected in it, but they're good insurance every 2nd service
I do my services at 12-15k depending on usage.

Forget about changing the oil on the trip,TD5 will do 15000 k's easy between services.I had the oil tested twice on one of mine at 15000 and it was OK.At 20000k they said it was also Ok,but should be changed.

in severe conditions, such as a lot of off road work or towing, particularly in hot weather, services earlier will be needed.

As long as you are using the correct fully synthetic engine oil,you will be OK.

I too do 15,000 km's between changes. Always have. I've also cut the rotors open for inspection and noted only a very thin film of carbon inside (maybe up to 1mm). I use Castrol Magnatec Prof 5w/40.

    Wouldn't waist your money, personally.

    Enjoy your trip!

Check your levels and go on your trip...

That oil will be fine even upon your return...
