You maybe able to use the seat mounts to secure a false floor that your draws will counter weight.
    Good point, thanks.
Yes, my care factor is quite low these days.

AFAIK if your D2 (or any vehicle) is registered in the State of Victoria (can't comment on other jurisdictions) don't remove any seatbelts because the number of factory fitted belts has to agree with the registered seating capacity of the vehicle unless the vehicle has been legally modified (ie engineered) and the 'registered' seating capacity apropriately adjusted - otherwise your vehicle can be deemed 'unroadworthy'. The argument that 'I've removed the seats so nobody can sit there!' just wont wash with the law at the Easter Holiday roadside roadworthy check site. Another important point.... I have two approved cargo barriers fitted but many 4WD vechicles commonly have only one that may be designed so that it can be re-positioned in front of the folded rear seats however if there are factory fitted seating positions behind any barrier, the barrier must display a placard warning the occupants DO NOT SIT BEHIND THE BARRIER. In my case if the rear seats are to be refitted and used the forward barrier must be removed.

So is it as easy as saying "hey can I register this car as a three seater?" Also technically removing the 2/3rd seat contains the mechanism for the middle seat, so even just removing that, you're implying the car is unroadworthy, though I pulled mine out before finalising my registration transfer, and wasn't pulled up on it. Also, I haven't ripped out the drivers side rear seat belt, but I unbolted it from the wheel arch, and fed it down to the roller anchor point and bolted on the same bolt. So technically, while still fitted in the car, it's non usable.

Just to get back on track

Have a look at the hinges. Even if you modify the door stop to allow the door to open wider, the hinges are going to limit any further gain unless you want to start modifying the door skin.
It will become a a styling/panel modification job aswell. I suppose it depends upon what your panel skills are and how you want the vehicle to look like. Is it really worth it?

    Cheers,

    Jason
