Don't count on it ! 3 years ago I was driving over "Dead Horse Gap" in the snowy mountains - we were one of the first cars over one early morning in July (mid winter here). Gong up, snow on the road and good traction.

Silly me was going too fast with no CDL engaged. Then, came over the crest and heading downhill and hit sheet ice, decided to touch the brakes. WRONG ! No steering and car starting to slide towards the edge of the road towards a steep drop off. .
Off the brakes, changed down a gear, still not slowing down

Now heading towards the armco - and my brain got back into gear and I just steered gently and prayed. How I missed going over the side and then missed the armco god only knows.

I run 32psi on front and stick with 38psi on the back. If doing a long run with more load in back, then I may add an extra 2psi on the back but I found running much higher made the ride too harsh for my liking.

My logic for increasing the front pressures was to even out the tyre wear better. And yes it did lighten the steering a bit as well.

I regularly get 80,000kms or higher out of a set of tyres, so found no reason to run pressures any higher. The best life was well over 100,000kms.

I run 28 front 38 back for normal loading, by the book and get even wear all round.Have been doing that for for over ten years so why would you do anything else with standard tyre sizes.

Just had new shoes put on the Commodore. The fellow who did the wheel alignment recommended I run the tyre pressures at 40psi.
When I asked him about Landrovers, his recommendation was 44psi. Higher if using low profile.
I think he was near to the mark with the Landrover but 40psi on a VR with standard tyres, a bit high in my opinion.

Not so much the VR might have refered to the Weighty driver it was carrying

Std for me is 33 front / 38 rear ... and don't forget this also depends on your choice of tyre and what load your carrying. Highway, this get me a nice 4psi increase once tyres are up to temperature.

Towing the Kamper (with 200kg ball weight) 31 front / 42 rear ... Yep, fronts are lower than usual ! ... Still gets me a 4psi rise.

Dueler AT 697 tyres.
