combustion gasses entering the cooling system.
Can anyone suggest why my cooling system would stay pressurised overnight?
I can come out to the car in the morning, car is stone cold, however top hose still has pressure.
This is causing a leak where the top radiator hose joins the radiator.
I'm pretty sure I know why it is doing it, I'm just hoping others might have more sensible/cheaper ideas as to why.
Loses coolant at a rate of about 3/4 expansion tank over 600km. No signs of overheating on the nanocom when driving around, stays at a flat 88c except on big hills where it goes up as far as 95c when accelerating.
I've changed the expansion cap over with no luck.
Suggest away!

not without contamination of the coolant and raising of the coolant level.
most of the other scenarios I can think of arent applicable to the disco.
the only other things I can think of is if the EGR cooler is picking up exhaust pressure while on boost but not venting it back which is reaching and the last thing is the coolant decomposing.
rather than strip it for parts if you've caught it at this point it can be a cheap fix.

No EGR system on the car, has been removed complete. So rules that out!
The harsh reality is that rego is due in 2 weeks, and the price of an 01 TD5 Disco 2 is peanuts. Even with all the fruit on it, I doubt I would get more than $7k at best if it was all running beautifully.
What is a cheap fix in your mind? Removal of the top end, replace gasket and reseal?
yep, you havent cooked it yet, I doubt the head will be stuffed.
Theres chemicals whose name I wont be seen to utter as a reccomended fix that sort out these sort of problems temporarily that once installed tend to make the problem worse later but might buy you enough time to save for a proper fix.
IF you can DIY the change you should easily get away with under $1k to do a reasonable job of it.

The car is going one way or another. Either as a whole, or in pieces. Have a D3 coming this week! YAAAAY!
So by the time I add another year of registration to it ($770) and fix it properly ($1000), I'm $1770 down on a car that will at BEST yield I think $7000.
I reckon I could make more pulling it apart, which will unfortunately be the end of another D2
I wouldn't want to do a bottle of chemical fix for the next person, like you said it makes the problem worse in future. Hey, maybe someone can use this donk instead of theirs that has done a proper job of stuffing their head!
IMHO,
you'll probably get more for it as a complete running unit with a known minor, temporarily fixed problem without the hassle of having to part it out.
good tdi300 D1's can on a very good day clear $7k registered. so if everything else is good on it you should be able to see about that. (but they average around $5K for a good one)
best guess on parting value will be in the order of $4k. I average $2.5K out of Tdi discos when I buy a wreck for a part and then make a lot of effort to strip, reclaim and recycle. But stripping it is a full 2 weeks of after hours work breaking everything down so I dont get the penalty rates for contaminated metals.
