The other thing that can cause a big difference is the MAF sensor.

    Hang on, Bo,
You say 10.28 litres for 100 km.
That is 100/10.28 km per litre = 9.72 km / litre.
    Multiply by 90 = 875 km from 90 litres.
With a 95-litre tank, you would have a range of 923 km.

Oh yeah, oops if we are being pedantic it works out at 9.73 km per litre or 924 kms per litre actually 924.124 kms.

We regularly get about 9.6 km to the litre. Happily 850 km before the light comes on then chicken out and fill as soon as possible. Have just had the tank out to replace to green fuel line and totally emptied it to make replacement easier. Once back in I tipped in a 20 l jerry and the fill light was still on. Tipped in another 20 and it looks about 1/4 full on the guage. I was not able to see at what point the light went out. We live out of town but today when I fill up I'll see how much to fill it. I always try to fill to the top and usually (tediously) squeeze in another 10 to 12 litres after 1st cutoff. Should be able to get an accurate guess of tank capacity and real range. Ours is an auto and if I had me druthers I'd go for a manual. I know I'd use the fuel more efficiently! It annoys me to be screaming along at just under 3000rpm doing 40kmh.

Just an update: Having put 40 litres into the empty tank and done 92km before getting to the servo I reckon there would be dead on 30 litres left in the tank. I filled it to the top (could see it) with 76.8 litres. Plus 30 = 106.5 litres total tank capacity. I'd guess there is around 10 litres unclaimable in the tank when she runs dry.
When I had the tank out I that the insert in the tank neck is designed to direct the incoming flow downwards and when the fluid level reaches the downturned spout the only exit for air is the feeble and horizontal breather tube. I'm guessing this is why the last 10 or 12 litres is such a bugger to squeeze in. I did an adaptation to the spout, cut a slot in the top surface so air can travel back up the filler pipe. It was a much quicker fill and although it still cut out with 10 litres to go that last 10 litres went in much quicker.

I think so too. I feel the box is mashing around not going anywhere. I do exaggerate a bit but unless you boot it to about 3000 rpm on takeoff it's a granny mobile. That's OK chugging around the shops but I'm not naturally a lead foot and would prefer to just take off with normal power and revs. At the lights it either crawls away making a big fuss and doing not much or give it some serious herbs and it shoots off like a rocket. Taking off and keeping the revs down to 2000rpm is almost a pointless exercise.
In 3rd and 4th it locks at around 82kmph. My book says it should be 72kmph.
Sorry, I'm off topic here but seems like having a conversation!

I should add 245/75/16 AT's, EGR removed as well as many mid-muffler. Think my speedo is about by 5% due to the tyres.

I was getting 600km from my 2000 TD5 auto when I lived and commuted in Melb. Checked all sorts of possibilities, MAF turbo etc. gave up in the end.

Then I moved here, mostly open road driving, and easily 1000km+ from a tank.

Std 235 tyres, no roof rack.

900km on trips with a roof tent.
Tyre size makes a big difference.
