Need some more help please.
Just replaced injector "o" rings (genuine) and washers that may have been after market. They did not com in genuine pack.
Still getting diesel in oil. ( 2.5 L in 300 km)
I did look closely for cracks when injectors were out but nothing obvious.
Other symptoms are, Have to wait for dash lights to go out to start or it won't start. Rough idle but runs fine after that.
Is there anything else I can check before head comes off?
I did read that fuel pressure sw can let fuel into sump. I have read about leaking injectors.
Does it sound like there could be some other problem?
My Disco has done 250,000km and has had regular service and has never been overheated and hardly ever off road.
Have read all I can find on the problem but as I'm not in touch with a lot of people with Td5. Is it common for this cracked fuel rail ?
Cheers. Devo
The copper washers seal compression and the orings seal diesel.
Unless the new orings were damaged on installation, it is a fail in the head.
The pressure reg, fuel block and temp sender can't cause diesel in the oil.
2.5 l / 300 is a big problem. You could fit a pressure gauge and some fittings to the fuel block to allow 80psi air to the head and check for leak down but it won't change the head removal and certain replacement.
Thanks Strangy.
My next question is what is a good replacement head?
Have seen several posts on after market upgrade heads. Can anyone suggest a good head and if they are available in WA.
What about gaskets? Is it best to use genuine or after market?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Check for leaky injectors? Btw: did you change the bolts that hold the injectors in?
Order the fitting kit with a head from Turner engineering UK. you'll need head bolts as well. With the head from Turner the valves come fitted (well it did with mine) the AMC heads sourced from AU don't seem to. Its a pity about the AUD atm as its going to be expensive.
Mine was making about 10mm on the dip stick every tank full, even after changing the orings and washers. So I ordered a head from turner and was fitting it 5 days later.
Been good for 70,000k now. Also change the water pump while your at it.
Hi Devo,
I really don't like admitting this but when I replaced the O-rings on my injectors when doing the head one of the rings didn't go into the right o-ring groove and on start up mine leaked diesel into the sump, a bit quicker than you mention however this could be something like this. When I took things apart I realised that the injector dropped straight to the copper washer with no resistance from the o-ring sealing. If you let all the injector clamp bolts go and give all the injectors a light tug you might fine one slightly looser than the others, do that one first..,..![]()
If you were getting diesel in the sump before you replaced the O-rings did the leak get any worse or better after replacing the O-rings? Head off and pressure test..............
Cheers Marty.

Hi , Just before you jump in and pull the head , remove your rocker cover turn the ign on and have a look around the injectors for the leak, if your lucky it may be as Nomad9 suggested.
Hi all and thanks for the suggestions. I have just come in from removing injectors and having another look at the head. i have had a younger pair of eyes on it and have now found a crack at No1 injector. Took particular care when fitting the injectors the first time and feeling the O rings fit in that I could not see that there could be any problem in that area. I was not looking in the right area for the crack the first time and missed it. When I get the head off and striped may find more as there is another suspect mark on No5.
Hopefully Monday I will find a good price for a head.
Cheers and thanks
I would ring Southerns and Barbagallos to see if they have any in stock that are costing them on their parts holdings, they may be wanting to quit them cheap.
If you go to the vendors section, there was a parts man posting from Barbagallos,he would be the man to contact,as he could drag it from Southerns if need be.
GOODLUCK
Andrew
