you can physically lock the car with the(fobbed!) key,, that disables the interior sensor that your 4 legged friend(or moth) sets off.
Our car came with only one fob key. I got a straight key cut at Bunnings which locks it OK but sets off the alarm if used to unlock. Doubtless the car would be immobilised as well. Locksmith has quoted $350 for a new fob. How does that compare with LR? Being a cheapskate, and considering that the car is 13 years old and not really joyride bait, I'm wondering if the security system can be dumbed down so that the central locking works but engine not immobilised and car won't scream at me when I leave the dog in it etc. Cheers,
Pete

i remember reading something about the nanocom being able to turn off the security system or immobiliser so lock n unlocks from key only.

Still saving up for one! (Nanocom, that is)
Hi, to have central locking by using the key in the lock and be able to start the car without a working fob you'll have to disable completely the immobilisers with tester, it means that in the BCU settings the immobiliser have to be set as ''not fitted'', the passive immobiliser set to ''disabled'' and the alarm to ''always disarm with key'' ... with this setup you dont need a working fob only a key
Discovery Td5 (2000), manual, tuned
Thanks sierrafery - looks like just the solution I'm after. I guess I'm going to need that Nanocom. I have no idea about BCU settings but I have a feeling I'm going to need to learn pretty soon. How exciting - haven't had a car with a BCU before!
