    Disco 2 2003 TD5, Electrical gremlins

Good morning all, I thought I would post this in the hope that someone would have run into this issue.

Out of the blue over the weekend, the cigarette plug, wipers, ARB compressor (fitted about 4 years ago) only start working once I drive for about twenty minutes. I got a new battery recently (about a month ago) and did not have any issues. Battery cables all secure, checked the fuses (individual checked each one, both engine bay and driver's side fuseboxes), pressed all relays in (engine bay fusebox), all OK, dropped in to the battery workshop, all OK.

    Any assistance will be welcomed.

    Kind Regards, Romy

Hi, first of all replace relay R7 with new one but if you dont have one swap it with R6 for test see if it cures things or not... if no joy remove the fusebox(engine bay) and give contact spray to the plugs.... if still no joy measurements are to be made with multimeter cos the interior fusebopx can be at fault, if you have RAVE and want to DIY i'll tell you where to measure

Thank you for your prompt reply. If faulty relay, could I replace with any equivalent rated relay or should I stick to the Landrover part?

Considering the auxiliary parts also impacted - you have an earth fault...

Likely a high resistance joint from dirty or poor connection...

Check eart points - following the one from the battery to chassis/engine and the one from the ARB compressor...

On second thought Tombie, is there a reason why not all circuits will be impacted if it was an earthing problem?

This could be a common earth for the auxiliary`s that is the fault

The bad earth can be a good point if the relay is good cos there are two points where it's common for wipers and cigar lighter, i dunno where your compressor is earthed though... see RAVE - electrical library - connector views and check C0018 first cos it used to suffer from water ingress

Without speaking too soon, swapping the relays as advised fixed the problem right away, off to get replacements. Much appreciated to all for their wisdom offered, kind regards Romy
