    02 V8 Disco dramas

G'day gang. I hope everyone's week is going well.

A friend from work has a V8 disco that she is having trouble with. She doesn't know anything about cars, nor does she know there is a group of enlightened Land Rover owners willing to lend a hand or opinion over the internet.

The issue seem to be fuel or lack there of. Yesterday afternoon we pulled the fuel pump apart with no obvious issues. Obtaining power to the pump is another story. I have quickly run the multimeter over the wiring and checked all the fuses and relays. Everything seems to be fine. In desperation I did use some "start ya barstard" which saw it kick over, only to konk out shortly after. Am I barking up the wrong tree?

Another thing may be sensors. Can anyone shed some light on that?

I have grown up on diesels so I'm not well versed on petrol motors anything over a mower on generator.

Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Will it run if you hot wire the pump direct from a battery? There may be a failed terminal block in the harness between the fuse box and the pump. Fuse box melty problems are common on those things too, from what I've read. You can also bypass the fuel pump relay with a simple wire loop from 30 to 87 on the connections if your relay is stuffed.

    Thanks Pedro.

She said that the fuel light was lit up on the way to work yesterday, I have added another 10-15L since. Do these fuel pumps prime themselves the same as a TD5?

Unfortunately not. Maybe I should ask the missus for xmas

Another issue I could think is the crank angle sensor. Is there any way to check with out a computer?

Only with oscilloscope, but for the V8 engine management(only for that) you can use one with the price of few beers, a friend of mine with v8 is very pleased with this one NEW Car ELM 327 Bluetooth Obdii Obd2 Diagnostic Scanner Wireless OBD 2 Scan Tool

The CAS usually gives you first warning by failing when hot,, and then just failing

and yes if run out of fuel and not repeatably turned over it will restart quickly.

there is a fuel line connector in the engine bay you can connect a pressure gauge to,,
    easier with the OBDII connector,,
around $20 and then download a free trial of the "Torque" phone app.
This will list nearly all V8 engine fault codes.

    very handy.
