    TD5 speedo works infrequently

    Hi all,

Tried searching but haven't found an answer.

My speedo doesn't work most mornings. In the afternoon it usually does. Any one able to point to a solution to fix the issue?

I do have the three amigos coming up every now and then.

    Cheers, Chris

Hi, go for a ride when the speedo doesnt work and see if you get trip meter/odometer reading, that's important cos if the trip meter rolls over but the speedo is not working the problem is with the instrument itself cos they work with the same signal from SLABS ECU coming on one wire, if no trip meter too then it could be a bad contact on the circuit between the SLABS ECU and instrumnent pack...you should do somehow and read the fault codes and if you get "road speed missing" code out of the engine ECU you'll know that the problem is between the SLABS and the joint(header C0290) where the signal splits between the instruments and other systems and if no fault code it's after that... that would be good before you start chasing connectors along the wiring.

    Thanks Sierrafery,

When the speedo stops working so does the odometer,

Guess it's a faulty contact somewhere.

    Cheers Chris

Speedo finally stopped D2 TD5 manual 01 model

Well, after a period of the speedo working most of the time it has finally stopped. No faults on the Nanacom apart form a 04-01 inlet air temp circuit that keeps reoccurring after it has cbeen cleared.

where should I start to track the problem

No transducer from my research on a D2. Signal comes from the SLABS ECU appariently. I don't have any faults for that showing on the Nanacom, nor do I have the three amigos so I am at a bit of a loss what the fault could be.

It uses the ABS sensors and throws a fault if one of them isnt reading properly.

    Hi Slunnie,

no faults showing relating to the ABS sensors.

where else should I be looking..

would it be worth pulling the sensors and cleaning them from the hubs?

    cheers Chris

Has your Disco got a speedo re-calibration box fitted? If so start looking there.

If it were me, then I would check all fuses and try unplugging and replugging the plugs for the SLABS computer and check particularly the pink wire with green stripe. This is in the passengers footwell.

After this I would try a different SLABS computer in place of it
