Leave them on, but check the mount holes for radial cracks every service.
Just my thought.

Been reading it's a good idea to get rid of them cuz all they do is trap dirty and mud...
thoughts?

I'd prefer to leave them on, but i'm at my wits end with the rattles they make when loose or cracked. I've had mine repaired each twice now. I took the RR off due to the noise it was making with one screw snapped off in the hole.
lots of comment has been made on this topic over the years. enter "disc guards" without the quotes into the search AULRO window at the bottom of any page and enjoy browsing the opinions - mine are still off and have suffered no resultant problems.

They will always let crap in, but not always out.
Mine have been off for as long as I can remember and without any probs

I think mine lasted about 20k kms after I bought the D2, then they cracked due to the road, so I took them off. Goes to show how much dirt road use it had in the prev 212000kms :O I think the defender lasted about 60000, though I did attempt a repair at some point. No ill effect has been observed in either. Does make it easier to keep a check on disc and pad condition

Ive had the opposite experience i would always leave them on.

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
JC, How do you stop them cracking? I brazed large flat washers to the defenders, shaped to fit and all it did was crack around the reinforcment :/ so I called it quits. The front do not appear to suffer the same probs.
Cheers Scott
Can't really stop them cracking easily. Welding them can sometimes make it worse so i just replace when necessary . Granted we don't have decent corrugations down here though!☺
