    ACE Filter

    Anyone replaced one?
I bit the bullet and bought one from Roverlord(great service as always) with only a vague notion on how to actually fit it.
I understand the plug can be quite er, tight.
Should I budget on more than a litre spillage?

    Hi Pedro,

There's a good write up with pics here: www.discovery2.co.uk / ACE High pressure filter

Apparently only a little fluid is lost.

Mine hasn't been touched in 288K km but will probably do it before our next big lap.
    Cheers

If you move fast you'll loose a neglectable amount of fluid, just use a perfectly matching key to not destroy the plug.

And don't neglect the negligible amont either. Land rovers don't deal with neglect very well.

    Thats all good,,
I figure a litre of new fluid wouldnt do it any harm,, I wonder if it will drain?

Even if you leave the filter removed only a part of the fluid will drain cos the DCVs(directional controll valves) and pressure controll valve are closed so the fluid is trapped between the block and actuators, if you want to refresh 1l from the fluid you have to move with talent and assistant is needed at the ignition: remove the return pipe from the tank, direct it into a recipient, clog the tank's return port, remove main relay R9, ask assistant to crank it continuosly while you are filling the tank as the fluid leaves the system, stop when you still have a bit of fluid in case you need to top up and refit fast the return pipe to the reservoir, top up reservoir if needed... job done , i used this method on mine and a friend's car with full success, be aware if you let it drain at the filter you'll need to bleed it with tester to be 100% it's no air trapped within the valve block/HP circuit even though it should bleed itself if you go for a harsh ride with many ''abrupt'' cornerings at the highest safe speed, check the level after that cos it might need a top up

I have been syphoning out the reservoir and refilling usually at 10,000km services.

I also have a ACE filter waiting to go in but worried about the TIGHT plug...
