    D2 V8 Just Died - Stumped!

Driving along car running perfectly then it just died. Managed to get out of harms way and tried to restart it. No luck. Thought it might be the crankcase sensor so I waited until the engine cooled down. Tried to start again and no luck. Checked spark, all good. Waited a bit longer then tried to start again and no luck. It was cranking well but seemed like it wasn't getting any fuel (tank was full). Called RACQ and had a ride home in a flatbed.

Once home checked power to fuel pump and all good. So I pulled the fuel pump out, checked it and cleaned it up. Put the pump back in and it started. Revved it up a bit and ran perfectly. I let it idle for while then turned it off. Tried to start it and it started. So I turned it off, tidied up the tools and took it for a test run. After about a kilometre it died again. Got a code P1668. Left it by the side of the road overnight and when to start it this morning and it wouldn't start.

I'm thinking if it was the crankcase sensor wouldn't it have started this morning?

    Any ideas?

I had the same sort of thing with mine. Turned out to be the fuel pump. It didn't just stop all of a sudden like turning the ignition off it was more like an increasing lack of power for about 30sec before the engine died.

Changed the fuel pump assembly and all good now.

IMO if you have spark and it doesn't go, then you don't have fuel.

Just put in a genuine crankcase sensor and still won't start. Keep getting the 1668 code. Almost at the point of looking for the matches! I going to pull the pump out. Maybe a wire fell off. Fuel guage is working so it has power.

i have not been paying attention but doesnt a 1668 code relate to immobilizer?

some (not sure about LR) work by allowing the car to crank but the fuel injectors are shutoff (so you cant start the car)

you know you have spark at the cylinders, do you have fuel at the cylinders?

Pulled the fuel pump and one of the tubes connecting the top piece to the bottom piece was off. Put it back on and added clips at both ends. Put it all back together and away we went!

I've cleared the 1668 code (you are right it does relate to immobiliser) and I'll check it in the morning. And now I have a spare CPS just in case it decides to play up in the middle of nowhere.

    Time for a beer now!

    Thanks for the suggestions.

    Cheers
