    upgrading D1 V8 to D2 TD5

Looking at replacing my daily driver 3.9L d1 and considering a late D2a.
    The d1 is a dual fuel 3.9/auto. 2.5" lift and 31s.
Its current duties ( which the td5 will have do do) are
    daily driving ( 50km a day)
towing my dirt bike and gear into the bush, which is where it fails; as its dual fuel and has the small petrol tank its range is terrible, especially when towing on gas. A tad more space would be handy too, which i think the d2 has?
and it also does some limted touring / light wheeling of which i'm planning to do ALOT more of in the td5, once again range holds me back in the d1.

The plan is daily drive the td5, use it to tow the bikes into the bush and do some more touring, still have my rangie for harder trips so the td5 wont get thrashed, although I am planning 265/75 and a bit of a lift and barwork.

I'm yet to drive a td5, ( if anyone in eastern suburbs vic feels like showing there one off to me let me know!!) but for the money i dont think i can go too wrong.

One concern is will i be dissapointed in the TD5 performance?? i mean the 3.9 is no powerhouse but i can still comfortably sit on 110 and hold 100 up hills on the fwy with the bikes on the back and i dont really want to go backwards with the td5. I'm willing to let range / space / features outweight performance a little bit, but i just dont want to be dissapointed.

Has anyone who has done a similar progression ( D1 v8 to TD5) care to add there thoughts?? or anyone else input/ advice on TD5s in general, i've done a search and there seems to be a fair bit covered ( i/c hoses, oil in harness, oil pump bolt) but happy to listen to anyone.

For what its worth i'm thinking, as late a d2a as i can find with under 200,000km, auto, would like leather aslong as its not tan but not essential, same deal with SLS, would prefer to stick away from ACE.

    Cheers,
    Cal

Been there tried them all, I have just got my first TD5 Disco I have had a TD5 defender and was extremely disappointed with the performance to say the least

I have driven a bog standard TD5 auto and they seem to have more power than my defender, but the Disco I have just bought has been chipped as well and boy oh boy I will not go back to a V8 ever (I've had a few)

Mine is an early 03 2a with 276000km on the clock and full service history that's the main thing I was looking for, it does need a few things doing but I'm happy with what I got

Haha it does read a bit that way, but then it would have been posted in the d1 section

As an owner of a 03 D2a I can say its definitely worth having a tune flashed to the td5, it makes an unbelievable difference.
I have also just recently had an ashcroft hd torque converter installed and that has completely changed the car again.
