    Advice needed for first time Discovery buyer

    Any advice regarding the purchase of a Discovery (1999 - 2003) would be appreciated

    First bit of advice would be that your in the wrong section. 1999 - 2003 is a discovery II.
    Lots of bargains to be had. And a great vehicle if looked after properly.

    You posted in the Discovery 1 sub-section but the D1's were replaced with the D2's in 1999.
    1999 - 2003 would be a D2 with the 5 cyl (Td5) or V8 motor. These were given a 'facelift' in 2003 & became the D2a.

    Traction Control was introduced to the Disco with the D2's but they didn't come with an OE centre diff lock, but this was reintroduced in the D2a. However, many of the D2's have been fitted with aftermarket centre diff lock mechanisms especially the 1999 to early 2002 ones as they still had all the diff lock mechanism in the gearbox, just no lever to engage/disengage it.
