As above ,also check steering input shaft u/j's . Any play in the wheel bearings will also make it wander
Check you have plenty of power steering fluid sloshing around in the reservoir with engine running , if not , the pump might be on its way out.
If the car moves from side to side when moving the steering wheel left to right , look closely at the panhard rod bushes
Bee utey will sort it, but I wouldn't drive it till sorted

IMHO the D2 has far superior steering stability vs a D1 or RRC as it has hub centre geometry.
If yours is unstable there is something very wrong.

Ive got engine mounts coming as I believe those are majority of my issues. (Mine are in very very bad shape)
I have a god awful noise when turning, but may be engine moving. Have replaced both front wheel bearing, tightened up the steering. Thought maybe ball joints or the CV but when jack it up, find no play or anything anywhere but then it is also over 412000km. Itused to be very direct and not wander like it does. Also have regular whwel alignments.
If unchanged after engine mount replacements, I think a trip to PCB will be the next step as I need it safe and ok as its the only car I can drive by law and physically. I do not know what else to do otherwise. PCB man is like Landrover Yoda
Engine mounts certainly will make it feel nicer, with less NVH but wont fix a wander.
Bushes or bearings are the worst culprits, followed by shocks..

Panhard rod bushes are one part that I have not looked at. I am trying not to drive it but unfortunately I have to a bit as cannot drive other vehicles. Makes me feel sick everytime I do, not so much the wandering part, but the droning/ vibration noise and feeling. I really cannot explain what it is like, other than awful.Quote:

Panhard rod bushes are the first thing to check, and fortunately, very easy. Get someone to rock the steering while you watch for movement between the axle and body/chassis. Even small play can be felt if you hold the bracket and rod at each end. Often you can sit in the driver's seat, and if you are parked with a wall etc close to the front, you will actually be able to see the front of the vehicle move sideways as you rock the wheel.
And watts link bushes in the rear
