If your car came from the factory with cats, no licensed exhaust place will remove them. Its a huge fine.

What is a licensed exhaust place? You need a license to fit exhausts these days?

Not real sure but in QLD any mainstream exhaust shop has to carry a licence under the motor trades act. All repair and garages are the same, with the resulting red tape and Parisitic hangers on, er eer eer I mean bureaucracy and inspectors.

But you can buy a non cat pipe from numerous places including Land Rover independent parts suppliers and importers of Terrafirma .
Legendex also do a complete bolt in exhaust with or without cats.

Or make your own. Lucky mine never had a cat but it did have centre and rear mufflers.

Removing the centre muffler made no or very little noticeable difference to me.

Removing the rear muffler, which I believe, just from the size of the pipe makes the biggest difference in flow also makes a big (possibly too much) difference if noise.

Just testing the bend. Having the suspension in extended mode made it much easier to slip the pipe over the axle.

    Bent

    Tested

    Painted

    Finished

You may want to know this extract from the workshop Manual: " The tail pipe from the silencer is curved downwards at the rear of the vehicle and directs exhaust gases towards the ground. the curved pipe allows the exhaust gases to be dissipated by the airflow under the vehicle and prevents the gases from being drawn behind the vehicle."

    Thanks Nick.

I sort of expect something like that. I intended to just see how sooted up the back door gets. If it's too bad then I'll add a mandrel bend cut straight. It might be a bit hard to tell though as I keep it washed pretty often.

    Happy Days
